Anyone who travels much knows that anytime you leave a place, you leave behind a list of things you would have liked to have done there if you had had more time, or known about them earlier.
Having just left Seward, I figured I’d share my list:
- Stayed at the cabins on Resurrection Bay.
- Visited the Alaska SeaLife Center.
- Taken a sled dog ride. Apparently, you can even do this in the summer. Who knew?
- Stayed at the Alaska Saltwater Lodge. These are the same folks who organized the sightseeting tour that we attended. They were sold out by the time we were arranging our trip and kindly referred us to the Bear Creek Cabins where we stayed. (See review of Bear Creek Cabins.)
What are your favorite Seward activities?

I went to Seward in early August. Loved it! My highlights were:
- Seavey’s Iditiride dog sled ride. Great time, loved the dogs.
- Major Marine day cruise in Resurrection Bay, to Holgate Glacier. Amazing– see those glaciers while they’re still with us! Saw orcas, a humpback, puffins, steller sea lions, sea otter, murrelets, cormorants, bald eagle, etc.,etc.
- The Train ride from Anchorage. Really fabulous! Incredible scenery.
- Eating. Nothing can beat fresh halibut, esp. the way they prepare it at Ray’s.
- Sea Life Center. It’s great to get up close to the local fauna.
- Hanging around the marina, esp. when the catch comes in!
I really loved Seward.
